We recently completed extensive improvement and refurbishment works at the Barnsley Street Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre in Stepney Green. This project formed part of the wider Cudworth Estate, Bethnal Green Regeneration Programme, delivered on behalf of our clients Look Ahead and East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT).
The works were undertaken to modernise the facility, enhance safety and comfort for residents, and ensure the long-term functionality of this important community mental health service.

The scope of works included:

  • Residential refurbishment – upgrades to the crisis centre flats to improve living conditions, including replacement flooring, wall finishes, redecoration, and installation of new fixtures and fittings designed to create a welcoming, calming environment for service users.
  • Building services – comprehensive electrical rewiring and lighting upgrades to meet current standards and improve energy efficiency.
  • Central Piazza refurbishment – full renovation of the shared communal area, including new flooring, wall treatments, and decorations to create a bright, open as well as accessible social space.
  • Safety and compliance – installation of new fire detection and alarm systems, as well as general compliance upgrades to align with NHS and Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.
  • Sustainability improvements – incorporation of modern, low-energy systems and durable materials to enhance environmental performance and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
